Participation is free for qualifying teams, thanks to generous support from sponsors like Canadian Tire and the Orange Shirt Society. Whether you’re a coach, manager, or community leader, your team’s involvement helps educate young athletes and honour Indigenous truth—one jersey, one story, one team at a time.
Why Orange Jerseys?
The orange jersey is a tribute to Phyllis Webstad, whose story sparked a national movement for truth and reconciliation. At six years old, Phyllis had her new orange shirt taken away on her first day at residential school—a moment that made her feel like she didn’t matter.

Today, orange represents
Every Child Matters.
When young athletes wear orange jerseys, they carry forward Phyllis’s story. It invites a question: “Coach, why are we wearing orange?” and opens the door to learning, truth-telling, and understanding.Through that simple act, sport becomes a vessel for change—bringing Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities together in the spirit of reconciliation.
